Humans have long been using CBD as an alternative and all-natural treatment for pain relief. However, CBD derived hemp oil is now being recognized as pain relief therapy for pets, specifically dogs. The benefits of using CBD oil to help boost your dog’s health are incredible. From easing the pain from cancer to relieving anxiety, hemp derived CBD products are helping make our four-legged friends’ lives a whole lot easier. Here are a few instances when and how you should use CBD for dogs.
Seizures and Epilepsy
People whose dogs suffer from epilepsy find CBD oil to provide relief for their pets. Introducing the correct levels of full-spectrum, hemp derived CBD oil to your dog’s system has also been known to reduce the frequency of seizures, sometimes even stopping them altogether.
Arthritis and Chronic Pain
Just like humans, our furry friends are not exempt from the suffering of arthritis and chronic pain. Luckily, CBD has been known to help with that. So, if you feel like your dog is suffering from arthritis or joint inflammation, giving them hemp oil can provide comfort and promote healing along the way.
Low or No Appetite
Does your dog usually love to chow down enthusiastically yet suddenly he doesn’t seem interested in eating anymore? This could be caused by digestive issues, an irritable stomach, or nausea. CBD has shown to actually help boost appetite and promote healthy weight gain.
Stress and Anxiety
Has your dog started to bark persistently throughout the night? Does he seem super agitated or stressed when left alone? Try putting a piece of clothing with your scent in their kennel, and turn on soothing music to help quiet outside noises that could stress our your pup. Also pairing CBD with exercise and training significantly helps bring relief from anxiety (for you) and your furry loved ones.
Tumors or Cancer
Finding out your dog has a tumor or cancer is devastating news. While going through chemotherapy, dogs can feel symptoms of pain, nausea, and loss of appetite. Research (1, 2, 3) has shown how CBD hemp oil can have a positive effect for bringing relief from cancer pain.
How to Incorporate CBD Oil in Your Dog’s Diet
Now, where is that sweet spot?
Every pet responds differently to hemp oil, so finding that ‘sweet spot’ for your pet can take some time and adjustment. Remember to begin with the lowest dose for your pet’s weight, and administer 2-3 times per day. If improvement is not seen after 5 days, increase the dose by a few drops, give this new dose 2-3 times per day. If comfort has not improved after 5 more days, increase dose again by a few drops and so on. Once that ‘sweet spot’ has been located, STOP increasing the dose and give the customized dose 2-3 times each day.
Administering CBD oil is easy. Simply drip it onto a treat, in their food, or directly into their mouth! CBD can be used as an oral supplement to promote health and relieve ailments, or as a topical solution to reduce discomfort, hot spots and heal the skin.
